Cambridge University wins legal battle to stop pro-Palestine protest

Cambridge University obtained a temporary injunction banning pro-Palestinian protests this weekend to prevent the disruption of its graduation ceremony. However, Judge Fordham rejected the university’s request to extend this ban for five years, arguing lack of justification and imminent risk. In addition, he noted Cambridge’s failure to report that several ceremonies were not affected by previous protests. In this context, Gina Romero, UN special rapporteur on freedom of assembly, warned that the restrictions requested by the university could violate international human rights standards, urging Cambridge to respect freedom of expression and cease stigmatizing pro-Palestinian movements.
