Commemorating ten years of the Addis Ababa Roadmap

At the 73rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), UNSR Voule took stock of the Addis Ababa Roadmap to mark its 10th anniversary.

The UNSR and colleagues from the UN Special Procedures and the ACHPR mechanisms, as well as civil society actors, took a look at the roadmap’s successes and its setbacks since its creation in 2012. Participants agreed that joint activities, be it joint statements, country visits or working groups, are efficient and worthwhile, and contribute to a greater protection and promotion of human rights and civic space on the African continent.

On the occasion, the UNSR and colleagues also shared ideas on the vision for the next decade’s joint activities and synergies, concluding that an increased strategic approach and dedicated resources would be beneficial for the Roadmap’s continued success.
