Six UN Special Rapporteurs have sent a letter to the Italian government expressing their deep concern about the Ddl sicurezza, pointing out that some of its provisions could violate fundamental rights guaranteed by international treaties, such as freedom of expression, assembly, movement and the right to a fair trial. Critical voices include the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, who warns that the bill seriously threatens these basic rights, weakening Italy’s democratic position at the international level. Organizations such as Antigone denounce that these measures represent a legal and democratic step backwards, warning about the loss of prestige of the country.
