The Special Rapporteur Clement Voule joins efforts with the African Commission of Human and Peoples’ rights (ACHPR) to promote observance of international and regional obligations regarding the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. UNSR Voule helps to strengthen the collaboration between the ACHPR and the United Nations special procedures mandate holders in the area of civic space protection.
On 23 of October 2019, UNSR Voule and the ACHPR held a panel discussion with regional Civil Society actors about the necessity to secure the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association in order to allow an effective civil society participation in the implementation of the Agendas 2030 and 2063. The discussion helped identify the challenges faced by civil society actors in their contribution to the implementation of the 2030 and 2063 Agendas. During the panel, the Commission asserted its decision to include in its periodic review of States the conditions implemented to enable the participation of civil society ODD by 2030 and the AU Agenda 2063. The panel has held during the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights’ 65th session in Banjul, Gambia.
