Security bill, alarm at the United Nations: “In Italy, freedom is in jeopardy”

The UN Special Rapporteur, together with five other experts, has expressed strong concerns about the Ddl Sicurezza under discussion in the Italian Senate, warning that some of its provisions could violate Italy’s international human rights commitments. In particular, the Rapporteur highlights the risk of violating fundamental rights such as personal liberty, the prohibition of arbitrary detention, freedom of movement and the right to a fair trial, as established by the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights.
