From January 9 to 13, Rapporteur Romero participated in the 30th Annual Meeting of Special Rapporteurs, Independent Experts and Chairs of Working Groups, where relevant issues were discussed regarding collaboration between colleagues and collective decision-making, working methods, and internal and external crises that threaten the defense of human rights.

The meeting also included spaces for dialogue with other actors, including High Commissioner Volker Türk and the then President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Omar Zniber. There was also a dialogue with representatives of the permanent missions of at least 25 countries, and with civil society organizations.

Within the framework of the visit, Rapporteur Romero had bilateral meetings with Ambassadors Permanent Representatives to the UN of India, the Philippines, Algeria, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania; as well as with representatives of the Missions of Cuba, Switzerland, and the United States.

Rapporteur Romero also participated in several celebrations of International Human Rights Day, including a reception organized by the Permanent Mission of India, another organized by the Geneva Human Rights Platform, and a breakfast organized by the mission of the Czech Republic, which included an honest dialogue about the protection of Human Rights Defenders and counted with the participation of representatives of the permanent missions of 12 countries.

In addition, the Rapporteur attended several country-specific briefings and a meeting with a Forensics Advisory Group coordinated by the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions.
