The draft law on the registration of non-governmental organizations will strengthen government control over the work of civil society.

Independent experts from the UN and the EU Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina have urged the Republika Srpska authorities to withdraw the draft law on registration and transparency of non-profit organizations, warning that it would impose disproportionate restrictions on NGOs, limit their independence and violate international human rights obligations. They also criticized stigmatization campaigns against NGOs as “foreign agents”. The EU also expressed concern about this and other draft laws that threaten fundamental rights and democratic values, stressing that such actions are incompatible with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s aspiration to join the European Union.
