As a leading expert in the field, the Special Rapporteur is also a spokesperson for the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. In that role, he convenes and participates in seminars, conferences and panels, including during the sessions of the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly. Some of these public engagement activities take place during “working or academic visits” aimed at raising public awareness about the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association at the country or local level.
